Adapting houses to make homes

Liah lived in a property that didn’t suit her needs as a wheelchair user. Leeds Fed helped her move to a more suitable property which was adapted to make it easier for her to live an independent life.

We want all our customers to have a home that suits their needs and adapting properties is an important part of our work.

Over 2014/15 we carried out 128 minor adaptations and 56 major adaptations to our properties. These included ramps to give disabled access to properties, fitting handrails to stair cases, grab rails in bathrooms and wet showers that give easy access to people with reduced mobility.

For major adaptations such as bathroom and kitchen refits, we work in partnership with Leeds City Council which provides some of the funding through a Disabled Facility Grant.
