Taking pride in the Stonegates
Marcus has been working with young people on the Stonegate Estate in Meanwood every week since November 2014.
His work is part of a project to redevelop a piece of waste ground next to Stonegate Approach. It began when residents asked for a skate park during a community consultation. Leeds Federated has raised most of the funding needed and is working secure the rest.
The activities aim to encourage young people on the estate to take pride in their local area and have a sense of ownership. They have included sessions on looking after the environment and issues such as dog fouling along with fun creative activities including street dance, photography and graffiti art.
This project is one of many community initiatives that Leeds Fed has run in the city this year. It’s all part of Leeds Fed’s vision to help make neighbourhoods places people want to live and move to.
